| If you own a 6.0 Powerstoke Super Duty, chances are you have experienced an EGR cooler failure. Perhaps you've even had multiple failures and suffered the major inconvinence and related out of pocket expense that goes along with it. the staff at Fleet Service Northwest are here to help you solve any issue you are having with your PSD. we have the experience, technical information and diagnostic equipment to perform accurate and timely repairs on any version of the Powerstroke Diesel. There is a series of events that take place which will lead to head gasket failure, and ultimately a catostrophic engine failure if not addressed. One issue is the oil cooler. It can become restricted with deposits and reduce coolant flow to the EGR cooler which causes the coolant within it to super heat and boil resulting in coolant loss, ending in failure of the EGR cooler, and worse. The root cause for developement of these deposits varies and should be addressed, but regardless you should always carefully inspect, replace or upgrade the engine oil cooler any time there has been an EGR cooler failure. this is something your ford dealership service department may or may not do. In the event of an EGR cooler failure, one must consider that this is only one part in this system. and while replacing the EGR cooler with the upgraded unit will certainly improve the durability of your 6.0 liter PSD, it is a very good ldea to consider replacing the oil cooler as well, and a must if it has restrictions. There are kits that block the flow of exhaust gases through the EGR system, and some that eliminate the EGR altogether. some 6.0 liter PSD owners have done the deletes, partial and or complete. They will tell you this is the way to go, however one must keep in mind that is is a violation of federal emissions laws to alter the emissions system on any pollution controlled vehicle. IF you live out in the boonies, this might not be such an issue, if you live in a large metropolitan area such as the LA basin, pollution is a very big problem. The problems from doing delete types of modifications can be anything from a check engine light, to poor performance issues because the EGR valve itself has an incorporated EGR valve position sensor which sends this information to your trucks engine and fuel control modules. adjustments are made to fuel and timing to compensate for non combustible gases that are being introduced into the combustion chambers. These inert gasses reduce combustion temperatures thereby reducing NOX emissions. The negative effects of Diesel EGR are soot deposites and the extra heat generated that the cooling system must now deal with. Up until now, there has been no other alternative to replacement with the same part with a proven failure record. I have seen many PSD owners who have become very frustrated with their Trucks due to these recurring failures., and many dealerships are not interested in finding and addressing the root cause for many different reasons. So many of you, the 6.0 liter Powerstroke owner, have either been left at the mercy of the dealership, or have sought to remedy this problem on your own. | |

| NOX emissions are responsible for most of the brown haze we see in the atmosphere in large metropolitan areas, produce acid rain, and have been determined a factor in respiratory health .These diesel EGR systems were designed by the manufacturer to meet federally mandated standards for NOX emissions. Unfortunately the EGR system found on the 6.0 liter PSD, while similar to other light/heavy duty diesel manufacturer designs, is inadequate for the extreme temperatures produced by a modern electronically controlled turbo diesel. If you suspect an issue with the cooling system on your 6.0 liter Powerstroke, it is important that a thorough diagnosis is performed.a misdiagnosis will lead to a repeat failure. It is also important not to assume any one component has failed by itself without testing the entire cooling system. every component in the cooling system should be inspected and tested. any deficient cooling system component should be replaced or upgraded if an upgrade is available. Due to the high number of head gasket replacments we have seen on stock 6.0 liters, we highly recommend the installation of a head stud kit, even if you have not experienced this failure, the odds are that it will occur at some point during your trucks service life. As warranties are expiring, we are seeing many trucks that have as little as 70k experience failure. Many 6.0 liter trucks are still covered by warranty, the big problem with these warranties is that when you take your truck in for a repair, the same sub-standard part is installed and will likely fail again. These repairs do not address the root causes of these failures. It is now possible to make the 6.0liter reliable while leaving it's EGR system intact and remain emissions compliant thanks to bulletproofdiesel.com, and their upgraded EGR and oil cooler. One of the biggest benefits to this upgrade is that it requires no waiver designating for off road use only, and will not affect your truck's powertrain warranty. We now carry this product as well as other products such as lubricant's, fuel additives and filters for your 6.0 liter powerstroke diesel. Remember a day in America when the local auto parts store, hardware store, and other local businesses sold products they believed in, and the person at the counter recommended products not by reading a computer screen telling them what to sell, and not based on the commission they make, but on their expertise and experience? People whose desire to run a profitable business came after the love of their Country, and their desire to do what is right? If not, do you at least remember your dad or grandpa talking about such a day? A day before the big chain stores sold rows and rows of Chinese products that the manager and sales people know nothing about? Its been said that those days are gone, never to return, but these are exactly the principles that we have founded our business on, and we aim to do our part in restoring the America that we all long to live in. read more | |
